Frequently asked questions

+ What does a class look like?

Everything we teach is designed to build strength and confidence around everyday movements.

Depending on whether you join our Strength & Conditioning or Explore & Play sessions, each session follows a similar format:

  • We start with a question of the day (this is the chatty bit)
  • Warm up and stretches (still quite chatty)
  • Goal of the session - what are we working on this week?
  • Peer coaching - here we partner up and spend 15 mins working on a movement or problem together. We find working in partners allows everyone to really understand a movement and how to execute it correctly, how to troubleshoot.
  • Conditioning or Movement Exploration - time to try out some movements under stress (Strength & Conditioning) or to play with the movements we've learnt (Explore & Play).
  • Cool down and goodbyes.

Every few months we run Community Workouts, these allow you to bring a friend or family member along, have a good workout and end with eating croissants and drinking coffee.

+ What is peer coaching and why do we do it?

“If you want to master something, teach it.” Richard Feynman said that, we think it rings true. Peer coaching is the approach we use to teach and consolidate each movement, or exercise. We focus on one movement per session, explaining why it is important, the muscles it will help strengthen and how to carry it out correctly.

In each session we spend 10 to 15 mins working with a partner. This allows you to identify when you’re doing it correctly, what correctly even means (often there a lot of ways to move!), and when you need to tweak your movement to solve a problem.

Our coaches provide feedback and support, but by teaching each other we build our understanding of how our body needs to move and how to keep them strong and mobile.

+ What shall I wear and bring?

You’ll need a pair of trainers that you don’t mind getting dirty and some clothes that allow you to move freely.

All of our sessions are outside, whatever the weather, so come with plenty of warm clothes that you can strip off and put back on at the end. A pair of gloves and a wooly hat are always useful in the winter.

We do have seasonal movements so we do less rolling around on the ground in winter, but come prepared to get a bit wet and a bit muddy.

We don’t have access to taps, so bring your own water.

If it's a winter session we made a little video on what to wear.

+ I don't have any kit, can I still come?

Yes! If you don't have waterproofs or layers please let us know ahead of time and we will source you some.

+ How late can I book or cancel?

If there is a space available, you’ll be able to book right up until the session. We ask for at least 6 hours lead time for cancellations. Any late cancellations cannot be refunded.

+ How much is it?

Our sessions are £9 or you can purchase a 10 session pass for £70. Monthly membership is £40 and gives you access to all sessions.

+ How long is a class?

Well, supposedly an hour long, but we like to make time for some chat at the beginning - so sometimes we run over a bit. You can always dash off when you need to.

+ Can I modify movements because I’m injured?

Some of our members have dodgy knees, wrists or are working with a physio. If you have any old injuries, please list this on the initial questionnaire and flag at the start of each session. We can then give you modifications for relevant movements.

+ What if I’m recovering from an injury?

We know the path to recovery can be long and frustrating. And that doing your physio exercises alone at home is almost impossible!

If you’re keen to join and meet new people you’re very welcome. We ask to have a chat with your physio first so we can find out what exercises you need to do more of, what should be avoided and what you should be working towards.

All of our workouts can be scaled back to accommodate you. But if you just want to come and do some stretching and do the exercises your physio has prescribed that’s fine too.

+ What if I can’t run?

Don’t worry, as above, we’ll find something else you can do. A few of our members are off running; often this means we’ll programme in something else for them to do whilst the rest of the group runs.

+ What if I injure myself?

Injuries can happen as we do some running through the woods and jumping over things. All of our coaches have up to date first aid training and access to a first aid kit, so if anything does happen we’ve got you covered.

+ Do you have loos available?

All of our sessions take place outside so please go to the loo before you get here. That said, there are always a lot of trees around if you need a quick pee in the bushes.

+ Won’t everyone be fitter than me?

We all started somewhere. Our sessions are designed to be inclusive of every level, this means there will be some people who have been working out consistently for years and others that have never seen a kettlebell and have no idea what a burpee is.

+ Can I bring my children with me?

Yes sometimes you can – please check with your local branch.

+ Can I bring my dog?

Yes sometimes you can – please check with your local branch.
